Tech and entertainment company Cineverse is bringing its catalog of licensed movies, documentaries, TV shows and stand-up comedy specials to Spotify.

The pact, announced on Tuesday, helps Spotify further diversify itself as a primarily audio-driven platform to one that helps subscribers connect with all forms of media, and follows Spotify’s successful integration of more than 250,000 video podcasts.

From today, Spotify subscribers will now also have access to more than 70,000 free TV shows and movies from Cineverse, including programs like “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan,” “The FBI Files,” “Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch” and stand-up specials from Jeff Dunham, Jim Gaffigan, Eddie Griffin, Tiffany Hadish, Kathleen Madigan and Gary Owen, among others.

The partnership with Spotify is considered groundbreaking for Cineverse, which has typically offered its catalog of 70,000 movies and TV series through free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST), ad-supported video-on demand (AVOD) and premium subscription-based video (SVOD) platforms in the past.

“As streaming platforms and device companies continue to expand to provide consumers more and more options to enjoy content where and when they want it, it was natural for us to explore distribution with Spotify,” Marc Rashba, the Executive Vice President of Partnerships at Cineverse, said in a statement. “As we have learned from the success of the Cineverse Podcast Network, Spotify has a massive reach and value, and we are now in a strong first-mover position to take advantage of this new opportunity.”

Cineverse said it was able to quickly launch on Spotify thanks to its proprietary content delivery and audience management platform called Matchpoint Dispatch. The tool gives content licensors the ability to manage their TV shows and movies in the cloud and deploy those assets to Internet-connected video services around the world. It also offers robust measurement of audience engagement and revenue generation, according to a Cineverse product webpage.

The Streaming Wars is intentionally ad-free

We don’t run display ads. Not because we can’t, but because we don’t believe in them.

They interrupt the reading experience. They cheapen the work. And they burn advertisers’ money on impressions nobody actually wants.

So we chose a different model.

We say the things people in this industry are already thinking but don’t say out loud. We connect the dots beyond the headline and focus on explaining why things matter to the people working in this business.

If you believe industry coverage can exist without clutter and interruption, you can support it here → SUPPORT TSW.

Support is optional. But it directly funds research and continued coverage — and helps prove this model can work.
