A senior Comcast executive who oversaw the company’s direct-to-consumer business is resigning.

Kelly Campbell is leaving Comcast after serving as president of its streaming service Peacock and overseeing other parts of the company’s direct-to-consumer initiatives. She joined three years ago after serving in a similar role at Hulu, the streaming service that once operated as a joint venture between Comcast, the Walt Disney Company and Fox Corporation.

Campbell’s departure comes about two months after Comcast affirmed it was spinning off its legacy cable TV networks into a standalone company, one that will be led by several NBC Universal executives when the separation concludes. Comcast intends to retain NBC and cable network Bravo when the separation is finalized.

As part of the spin-off plans, the company elevated a number of executives to oversee other parts of its business, including Peacock Chairman Matt Strauss, who will lead NBC Universal Media Group in the same role. Donna Langley, currently the Chief Content Officer at NBC Universal, will lead NBC Universal Entertainment and Studios when the spin-off is finalized.

Less clear is whether there was a role for Campbell once the executive shuffles were completed. NBC Universal has not released a statement about her forthcoming resignation, which was confirmed by several entertainment trade publications Wednesday evening.

Comcast has focused on building Peacock into the cornerstone of its consumer entertainment business, with the company prioritizing live news, entertainment and live sports on the platform. The service received wide acclaim during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, with novel features like event multi-view and a whip-around channel called “Gold Zone. But an evaluation of data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics showed most Olympic viewership took place on NBC’s traditional TV networks, with just one in six Olympic fans watching some or all of the games on Peacock.
