Prime Video is Reportedly Adding Multiview, As It Adds More Sport

Amazon Prime Video appears to be gearing up to enhance its live sports streaming experience with the addition of a multiview feature, according to hints found within the app’s code. This move would put Prime Video in direct competition with YouTube TV and Fubo, which already offers a popular multiview option for sports fans.

Multiview allows viewers to watch multiple live streams simultaneously, making it ideal for keeping up with multiple games or events at once. YouTube TV’s implementation allows for up to four simultaneous streams, and it’s possible that Prime Video will offer similar functionality.

This comes from a breakdown of the new Prime Video app code by Android Authority.

Catching Up to the Competition

While Prime Video has made strides in live sports streaming, securing deals for NBA, WNBA, and NFL Thursday Night Football games, it currently lacks a multiview feature. This puts it at a disadvantage compared to YouTube TV, which has been aggressively expanding its multiview capabilities across various devices.

Potential Benefits for Prime Video Users

The addition of multiview would be a significant upgrade for Prime Video’s sports streaming experience, allowing users to follow multiple games or events without having to switch between streams. This could be particularly appealing to fans of fast-paced sports like basketball and soccer, where simultaneous action can be difficult to track.

How Will it Work?

It remains unclear how Prime Video will implement multiview. YouTube TV handles the merging of streams on its servers, ensuring smooth performance even on lower-end devices. Prime Video may adopt a similar approach or opt for on-device merging, which could impact performance on less powerful devices.

The Streaming Wars Heat Up

The addition of multiview would further intensify the competition between Prime Video and YouTube TV in the live sports streaming arena. As streaming services continue to vie for viewers’ attention, innovative features like multiview could become increasingly important differentiators.
