Ultra HD Forum Completes Integration Under SVTA Umbrella

The Ultra HD Forum and the Streaming Video Technology Alliance have completed the integration of their organizations, with the Ultra HD Forum now operating under the SVTA umbrella. The move is intended to broaden industry participation in the Forum’s work and extend adoption of the UHDF Guidelines across both broadcast and streaming workflows.

The completed merger follows discussions held with members during IBC 2025 and reflects a growing alignment between broadcast-centric UHD standards work and streaming-focused delivery and interoperability efforts.

Aligning Broadcast and Streaming UHD Workflows

Under the new structure, the Ultra HD Forum continues its focus on content quality, production workflows, and end-to-end interoperability, while benefiting from SVTA’s larger and more diverse membership base. The organizations say the combination helps address challenges that increasingly span both broadcast and streaming delivery, including codec adoption, HDR consistency, IP-based production, and device interoperability.

The UHDF Guidelines, which are widely referenced by broadcasters, manufacturers, and streaming services, remain central to the Forum’s work. The stated goal is to expand their relevance beyond traditional broadcast environments to include streaming-native UHD delivery at scale.

Momentum Coming Out of IBC 2025

The integration follows a strong showing for the Ultra HD Forum at IBC 2025, where the group hosted its annual members’ breakfast and demonstrated new technologies on the show floor. Demos focused on AI-assisted video processing, IP-based production pipelines, and next-generation codecs such as VVC.

According to the organizations, the merger was presented to members during IBC and received a positive response from both broadcast and streaming participants, reflecting increased interest in shared solutions rather than parallel standards efforts.

Ongoing Publications and Industry Tracking

The Ultra HD Forum says its day-to-day work continues uninterrupted following the integration. The organization recently published two new executive summaries focused on Brazil’s Next-Gen TV 3.0 trials and repository-based workflows for UHD and next-generation audio. These documents complement the Forum’s broader Guidelines, now in version 3.3.1.

The UHD Service Tracker, which monitors global UHD deployments across broadcast and streaming, has also been expanded and now tracks more than 340 services worldwide. That data effort continues under the combined organization.

Looking Ahead

Operating within SVTA, the Ultra HD Forum aims to connect stakeholders that have historically worked in separate broadcast and streaming silos. The combined organization plans to focus on practical, cost-effective workflows that support UHD content from capture through distribution and reception across a wide range of devices and delivery models.

Both organizations describe the completed merger as a structural alignment rather than a disruption, with existing programs and working groups continuing under the new organizational framework.

The Streaming Wars is intentionally ad-free

We don’t run display ads. Not because we can’t, but because we don’t believe in them.

They interrupt the reading experience. They cheapen the work. And they burn advertisers’ money on impressions nobody actually wants.

So we chose a different model.

We say the things people in this industry are already thinking but don’t say out loud. We connect the dots beyond the headline and focus on explaining why things matter to the people working in this business.

If you believe industry coverage can exist without clutter and interruption, you can support it here → SUPPORT TSW.

Support is optional. But it directly funds research and continued coverage — and helps prove this model can work.
