Plex Launches Its First “Plexclusive” with Ghost Show, Premiering October 8th

Graphic: 43Twenty

Plex is moving into exclusive content with its first-ever “Plexclusive,” Ghost Show, which will premiere globally on October 8th. Created by and starring TikTok star Preston Garcia, Ghost Show is a dark comedy that highlights the platform’s evolving strategy to offer more than just reruns. It marks a milestone in Plex’s journey into original-style, exclusive programming.

Who is Preston Garcia?

Preston Garcia is a comedian and content creator who gained prominence through viral TikTok videos. With Ghost Show, Garcia transitions his comedic style from short-form digital content to long-form television, working alongside fellow creators Megan Guthrie and Gray Fagan. This move represents a growing trend of social media personalities extending their reach into traditional entertainment formats.

FASTS are No Longer About Just Reruns

The FAST ecosystem is evolving rapidly. While it once primarily featured reruns and short-form content from platforms like YouTube, FAST services increasingly want to differentiate themselves with unique, exclusive, or original offerings. Ghost Show, as Plex’s first “Plexclusive,” represents a significant step in this direction. While it’s not an original production, its exclusive status highlights the increasing value of exclusives in attracting viewers to FAST platforms.

Though FAST has traditionally been viewed as a home for licensed or recycled content, the rise of original and exclusive programming, like Ghost Show, signals a broader shift towards platform-specific, high-quality content in the FAST landscape.

By securing Ghost Show as a “Plexclusive,” Plex is demonstrating how FAST platforms can step out of the shadow of traditional streaming giants by offering distinctive content that appeals to niche and mainstream audiences alike.

While much of FAST content still centers on licensed material, the emergence of exclusives is reshaping the landscape. Original and exclusive programming allows platforms like Plex to stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace and attract viewers seeking fresh content that can’t be found elsewhere.

The Future of “Plexclusives” on Plex

While Plex’s future slate of exclusives remains to be seen, the launch of Ghost Show sets the stage for more potential “Plexclusives” down the line. As FAST platforms mature, exclusives will likely play a crucial role in their growth strategies, helping them compete with larger streaming platforms by offering content available only on their services.

The Streaming Wars is intentionally ad-free

We don’t run display ads. Not because we can’t, but because we don’t believe in them.

They interrupt the reading experience. They cheapen the work. And they burn advertisers’ money on impressions nobody actually wants.

So we chose a different model.

We say the things people in this industry are already thinking but don’t say out loud. We connect the dots beyond the headline and focus on explaining why things matter to the people working in this business.

If you believe industry coverage can exist without clutter and interruption, you can support it here → SUPPORT TSW.

Support is optional. But it directly funds research and continued coverage — and helps prove this model can work.
