NBCUniversal and YouTube TV Finalize Carriage Deal, NBCSN to Relaunch

NBCUniversal and YouTube TV have once again avoided a blackout by finalizing a new multi-year carriage agreement. After briefly extending negotiations, the two companies reached a deal that ensures NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, USA, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, and other networks will remain available to YouTube TV’s roughly 10 million subscribers.

As part of the new agreement, NBCUniversal will relaunch NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) later this fall. The original channel was shut down four years ago, but it is now returning as a linear destination for NBCU’s sports programming, complementing its digital efforts through Peacock and other platforms.

Peacock itself will expand its reach through YouTube Primetime Channels and Google TV. However, it will not be directly integrated into the YouTube TV ecosystem. That point had been a sticking issue in negotiations, with NBCU pushing for more seamless distribution through YouTube TV and Google ultimately holding the line.

The agreement also includes terms for short-form clips, full episodes, and highlights from NBCUniversal’s portfolio to appear on YouTube’s main platform. In addition, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment content will continue to be available for rent and purchase on Google TV and YouTube, while NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution’s library films will be offered through both SVOD and AVOD models on YouTube.

NBCU is still handling ad sales and distribution for the Versant-branded networks, including USA, Syfy, E!, and CNBC. In the future, Versant will take over distribution responsibilities, while NBCU will retain control of advertising. This shift marks a longer-term structural change in how NBCUniversal is handling its cable assets.

One important aspect of the timing was its potential impact on Spanish-speaking households. With Univision already pulled from YouTube TV due to failed negotiations with TelevisaUnivision, there was concern that Telemundo could face a similar blackout. That scenario was avoided, and Telemundo service continues without interruption.

In the end, the agreement gives both sides something they need. NBCU maintains distribution scale for its networks and expands Peacock’s reach. YouTube TV avoids losing a major portfolio of channels and continues to serve its growing base of subscribers. And most importantly for viewers, programming continues without disruption.
