According to new forecasts from Ampere Analysis, ViX is expected to be the fastest-growing major subscription streaming service in the Americas in 2025, with an anticipated 18% increase in its subscriber base. The Spanish-language service, owned by TelevisaUnivision, is projected to reach 10.5 million paying subscribers by year-end—surpassing growth rates for Apple TV+ (14%) and Max (9%).
This growth continues a longer trend for the service, which has expanded its subscriber base by 70% over the past three years.
Growth Driven by a Multi-Tiered Business Model and Strategic Partnerships
ViX operates on a hybrid “freemium” model that includes a free, ad-supported tier, as well as both ad-supported and ad-free paid tiers. This structure has enabled the service to attract a wide range of viewers across the U.S. and Latin America, particularly within the Hispanic/Latino demographic.
Ampere forecasts that in 2025:
- 60% of ViX’s revenue will come from advertising across its free and hybrid subscription tiers.
- 36% will be generated from its premium ad-free tier.
The service’s growth is also being supported by a number of distribution partnerships and bundling strategies:
- A hard bundle deal with Charter Communications in the U.S. is expected to contribute 900,000 new ad-tier subscribers from 2024 through 2026.
- In Mexico, ViX has established retail partnerships with OXXO and Mercado Libre.
- It recently launched a new bundle offering with Disney+.
These partnerships have expanded ViX’s reach without relying solely on direct-to-consumer acquisition.
Catalog Expansion and Localized Content Remain Central to Strategy
Content remains a key growth driver. ViX has more than doubled its SVoD catalog since launching in 2022, adding over 2,500 distinct titles. It now offers the largest Spanish-language streaming library in the world.
Its content strategy leverages TelevisaUnivision’s deep catalog of Spanish-language programming, including:
- Crime & Thriller, which comprises 20% of the catalog and was the most commissioned primary genre in Latin America in H2 2024.
- Romance, which makes up 18% of the catalog, aligning with regional demand for telenovelas.
According to Ampere, over 40% of ViX’s U.S. subscribers cite a broad selection of movies and TV shows as a key reason for subscribing.
Profitability Already Achieved
ViX has become one of the few global streamers to achieve profitability—only the third to do so—and has done so in a relatively short period of time. Ampere attributes this to the service’s early focus on monetization through tiered offerings and advertising, rather than a singular focus on subscriber volume.
“ViX entered the market with a clear strategy, offering tiered options from the outset,” said Deborah Polanco, Analyst at Ampere Analysis. “While competitors are still building out ad tiers and tightening account access, ViX has already reached profitability.”
Outlook
ViX’s performance in 2025 is expected to stand out in a streaming market that is increasingly focused on revenue diversification and operating efficiency. With a growing subscriber base, expanding catalog, and strong position in the Spanish-speaking Americas, ViX is well-positioned to maintain momentum in both user growth and advertising revenue.
