Warner Bros. Discovery and PCCW’s Viu are teaming up to launch a unified streaming bundle across five Southeast Asian markets, marking one of the most significant cross-platform streaming collaborations in the region to date. Rolling out in Q4, the single-subscription plan will be available in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, combining HBO Max’s premium Hollywood catalog with Viu’s extensive lineup of Asian dramas, variety shows, and local productions.
The partnership delivers a rare multi-market bundle in Asia Pacific, mirroring similar strategies WBD has deployed successfully in other regions. For HBO Max, it is a targeted play to deepen its regional footprint after relaunching under its original brand name earlier this year. For Viu, it is a competitive counter to global streamers expanding aggressively in Asia, bolstered by its freemium model and recent strategic investment from Canal+.
Subscribers will gain access to blockbuster films like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, beloved franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Friends, and HBO originals The Last of Us and The White Lotus. On the Viu side, the bundle includes long-running variety hits Running Man and 2 Days 1 Night, as well as Chinese dramas The Immortal Ascension and Love Has Fireworks, and anticipated Korean originals My Youth and Taxi Driver 3.
While both platforms will sell the bundle directly via their own websites, the services will remain technically separate, with content libraries, features, and device compatibility varying by platform. Pricing and specific launch dates will be announced closer to release.
James Gibbons, President of Asia Pacific at Warner Bros. Discovery, said proven results from similar initiatives drove the decision. “Following the proven consumer and business benefits of HBO Max bundles in other parts of the world, this new streaming offering will provide strong entertainment value for consumers across Southeast Asia, and help drive subscriber growth and stronger retention.”
Janice Lee, CEO of Viu, emphasized the value for audiences. “By combining HBO Max’s Hollywood content with Viu’s Asian favorites in a single bundle subscription, we are offering more choice in shows, easier access to diverse content, and greater value across a wider range of programming.”
The collaboration signals a broader industry shift toward bundling as a retention strategy, not just in Western markets but increasingly in Asia, where regional players are looking for scale advantages without sacrificing local content relevance.
